Thursday, December 20, 2008 8:00 PM Game of the Year: Who Cares? If
you frequent game blogs or message boards. or if you're a thinking
human being, you'll have heard the debate about whether or not this has
been the best year ever for video games. I won't get into that, but a
year with Guitar Hero III, Super Mario Galaxy, Assassin's Creed, The
Orange Box, Halo 3, Metroid Prime 3, Uncharted and Call of Duty 4 is a
pretty darn good one. So why bother trying to pick which one is the
best? Halo 3 was the biggest launch in entertainment history. Galaxy is
one of the top 3 highest rated games of all time. The Orange Box is the
best (this is not debatable) deal in gaming history. The X-Box 360 is
officially a must-have if you call yourself a gamer. The Wii is well on
its way and the PS3 is... well... it plays Uncharted and Ratchet very
well. Looking forward to next year, we've got Burnout Paradise, Super
Smash Bros Brawl, a new Advance Wars, Mercenaries 2, Metal Gear Solid
4, and hopefully a new Animal Crossing. All of those are sequels, so
imagine all of the great new IPs that are coming too... The point of
this uncharacteristically inhumorous wall of text is that now is a
great time to be a gamer. And if you're not, punch yourself in the
intestines and get a DS at the very least... -Ryan Rigney
